We repreated the mistakes we do in big tournaments: Harmanpreet post CWG Final Loss

After facing a nine-run defeat in the ongoing Commonwealth Games’ gold medal match against Australia, India women’s team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur admitted that her side repeated the same mistakes which they have done in the past in big tournaments.

Opting to bat first in the final on Sunday, Australia rode opener Beth Moneey’s fantastic 41-ball 61 and Meg lanning’s valuable 36 to post a challenging 162-run target before India. In return, India lost openers Smriti Mandhana (11) and Shafali Verma (6) cheaply and were once reeling at 22/2 before Harmanpreet (65) and Jemimah Rodrigues (33) repaired the early damage with a 96-run stand for the third wicket and took thier side close towards the target.

However, the duo fell in the 16th over after which the entire Indian batting line-up fell like a pack of cards and were eventually bowled out at 152 in 19.3 overs.

Speaking on the match, Harmanpreet said: “Yeah definitely it is a big moment for all of us. First time, we were participating and the way we played this tournament, it was great to watch. We were close to gold medal, but once again we did the same mistakes we have been doing in the big tournaments.”

“You know, we have to keep working hard on lower-order batting. I am sure we will do well in the upcoming tournaments. I think this silver medal matters a lot, this will definitely motivate young girls back home,” Harmanpreet was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Before the CWG gold medal match, Australia’s Tahlia McGrath tested positive for COVID-19 however, she was allowed to play the final. Commentin on it, the Indian skipper said: “Well, they did inform us before the toss, it was something which was not in our control. We went with the sportsmanspirit, she was not that ill, we did what we had to do, it was not in our control.”
