UAE to host T20 World Cup from October 17

The T20 World Cup will begin on October 17 and the final will be held on November 14 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), according to a report.

Although the ICC is yet to make an official announcement on the development, the report also stated that few initial matches will also be played in Oman.

As per the report in espncricinfo.com, after the conclusion of the suspended 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) on October 15, the showpiece event will begin two days later.

The Round 1 elimination matches will be held at a venue in the UAE as well as in Oman and the ICC along with the BCCI, to which the tournament was allotted, will come out with the dates and venues of the tournament after June 28.

Notably, June 28 is the deadline given by the ICC to the BCCI to show its preparedness to host the showpiece event.

Significantly, 16 teams will feature at the T20 World Cup and after the first stage of matches, the 16 teams will be pruned down to 12 for the Super 12s stage. The Super 12s is likely to begin on October 24, according to the report.
