Sri Lanka pacer Isuru Udana announces retirement from international cricket

Sri Lanka pacer Isuru Udana has announced his retirement from international cricket.

Udana, 33, had made his debut back in 2009 T20I World Cup, scalping couple of wickets against Australia.

He was also one of the only Sri Lankan to feature in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2020 for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

“I believe the time has come for me to make way for the next generation of players,’’ Udana was quoted as saying by a statement from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

“It is with immense pride and passion, and unfathomable commitment that I have represented and served my country,’’ he added.

Udana has played 21 and 34 ODIs and T20Is for the island nation, bagging 18 and 27 wickets respectively.

In IPL, he played 10 games bagging eight wickets.

SL pacer Fernando tests negative for Covid-19 ahead of 3rd ODI vs Bangladesh

Sri Lanka pacer Shiran Fernando, who had tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of first ODI against Bangladesh on Sunday, has finally returned negative after the third round of RT-PCR test.

Fernando had tested positive ahead of first ODI along with pace bowler Isuru Udana and coach Chaminda Vaas however, while the latter two tested negative results after second round of tests, Fernando had still returned positive.

“Fernando tested corona negative [in the last test],” Bangladesh’s team spokesperson Rabeed Imam was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Earlier, Fernando hadn’t attended the practice session on Wednesday afternoon at Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Academy premises.

Significantly, Bangladesh, who have already sealed the series after beating the tourists in the first two ODIs, will look for a white-wash in the third and final affair on Friday.
