FanCode partners with NZC to exclusively live-stream Dream11 Super Smash

FanCode, India’s premier digital sports destination for all fans, has partnered with New Zealand Cricket (NZC) to exclusively live-stream all matches of the Dream11 Super Smash.

Cricket fans across India can watch the high-octane and entertaining cricket action of New Zealand’s premier T20 tournament from November 26th LIVE on FanCode App and www.fancode.com.

The 2021-22 edition tips off with defending women’s champions the Canterbury Magicians hosting Wellington Blaze at 7:40 AM IST. Following the women’s encounter, Wellington Firebirds take on last season’s Grand Finalists the Canterbury Kings at Hagley Oval in a 11:40 AM IST start.

The nine weeks of swashbuckling action will include top players from New Zealand’s 2021 T20 World Cup campaign including Daryl Mitchell (Canterbury Kings), Jimmy Neesham (Wellington Firebirds), Mark Chapman (Auckland Aces).

Wellington Blaze will hope their star all-rounder Sophie Devine continues her good form from a successful Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) campaign. Devine was selected as captain of the WBBL team of the tournament after leading the Perth Scorchers to the final.

The tournament will see six men’s and six women’s teams battling for a spot in the Finals, with the sudden death Elimination (2v3) Finals played across multiple venues including Whangārei, Palmerston North and Queenstown.

The upcoming 17th edition of the league will witness 32 T20s, set to be played over a period of close to two months. The league will kick-off on November 26 and will end on January 29, 2022.

The six teams (Men’s) are – Auckland Aces, Canterbury Kings, Central Stags, Northern Knights, Otago Volts and Wellington Firebirds. All these teams will take part in the tournament in a double round robin format in the league stage.

As per the format, each team will play every other team twice in the group stage which adds up to a total of 10 matches per side and the top three teams from the leaderboard will advance to the playoffs consisting of the Elimination final and the final.

However, due to the international fixtures of New Zealand clashing with the tournament, many of their top players will not be able to feature in the first few games of the upcoming edition of the Super Smash.

The upcoming tournament will kick-off with a clash between Canterbury and Wellington at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on November 26.

Dream Sports raises $840 million at $8 billion valuation

Dream Sports, one of India’s leading sports tech company with brands such as Dream Capital, FanCode, Dream11, DreamSetGo, Dream Game Studios, and DreamPay in its portfolio, has announced the completion of an investment of $840 Million at an $8 Billion valuation, led by Falcon Edge, DST Global, D1 Capital, Redbird Capital and Tiger Global.

The round also saw participation from existing investors like TPG and Footpath Ventures, making it amongst the largest investments globally in the sports tech sector.

Dream Sports, with an existing user base of 140 million Indian sports fans, is on a mission to build one of the world’s largest sports ecosystems which includes Sports Content, Commerce, Experiences, Fan Engagement (including Sports Gaming and Esports), Web 3.0 solutions, Fantasy Sports and Fitness Tech.

Earlier this year, Dream Sports further strengthened its commitment to this space by announcing a corpus of $250 Million through its CVC and M&A arm, Dream Capital. Dream Capital has built an initial portfolio of 10 companies, largely focusing on thematic early stage investments in India, including, Fittr, SoStronk, KheloMore and Elevar. Dream Capital is now expanding its sports, fan engagement and fitness portfolio in India and globally.

A homegrown company founded in 2008 by Harsh Jain and Bhavit Sheth, Dream Sports is located in Mumbai and employs close to 1,000 ‘Sportans’.

Avendus Capital was the exclusive financial advisor to Dream Sports on the transaction.

FanCode to exclusively live-stream Pakistan tour of Bangladesh in India

FanCode, India’s premier digital sports destination for all fans, will exclusively live-stream all matches of Pakistan’s tour of Bangladesh commencing on Friday with the first match of the T20I series at Sher-E-Bangla Stadium, Dhaka.

The second and third fixture will be played on November 20 and 22 at the same venue.

The digital exclusive rights will also include two Test matches, first in Chattogram from November 26 followed by a return to Dhaka for the 2nd Test starting December 4.

This will be Pakistan’s first tour to Bangladesh since 2015 and the two-match Test series will be the part of the ICC World Test Championship points table.

Recently, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had formed a two-member committee, comprising board directors Enayet Husain Siraj and Jalal Yunus, to review the national team’s performance in the just concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

”The committee has been entrusted with taking the views of Bangladesh squad members (Players and Team Management) and relevant stakeholders to assess why the team could not deliver the expected performance in the event and share its findings with the board,” the BCB had said in a statement.

Notably, the Mohammaed Mahmudullah-led Bangladesh side failed to register a single victory from their five games in the Super 12 stage while they also lost to minnows Scotland in the qualifiers.

Despite defeating Australia and New Zealand in home T20I series before the start of the showpiece event, the Bangla Tigers put up a below-par show in the World Cup.

Bangaldesh was only able to register wins against new comers Oman and Papua New Guinea in Al Amerat in the qualifiying round by 26 and 84 runs respectively.

After finishing the qualifying round at the second spot behind Scotland in Group B, the Bangla Tigers somehow managed to enter the Super 12 round.

Placed in the Group 1 of the Super 12 stage, Bangladesh lost all their league games against England, Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies. They finished the Super 12 stage without any win, placed at the bottom of the points table.

To further add to their miseries, Bangladesh star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was ruled out of in the latter part of the tournament due to a hamstring injury. Notably, Shakib had picked up the injury in his left leg during the contest against West Indies on October 29 and following a 48-hour observation period, the team’s medical staff decided to rule him out of the showpiece event.

On the other hand, the Babar Azam-led Pakistan made to the semi-finals of the showpiece event before going down against champions Australia. The Green Brigade had earlier, won all of their five games in the Super 12 stage,

FanCode bags broadcast rights of Nepal’s Everest Premier League 2021 for India

The 4th edition of EPL, Nepal’s first sports league and the biggest sporting event, is scheduled from September 25 to October 9, 2021, and fans can watch it live on the FanCode App and www.fancode.com.

The new season will take place in Kathmandu, with all 19 matches to be played at TU Cricket Stadium, Kirtipur.

The star-studded line-ups feature some of the world’s best cricketing talent from over 10 countries across six franchises including former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal, Dhammika Prasad, Dinesh Chandimal, and Upul Tharanga from Sri Lanka, West Indies fast bowler Kesrick Williams, and Afghanistan’s Mohammad Shahzad among others.

“This association will help us to reach out to wider array of viewers and will significantly help in the development and promotion of Cricket in Nepal,” he added.

The 2021 season of the league, which is officially sanctioned by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), will be held in late September.

On the other hand, Arun Pandey, CMD, Chairman of Seven had written on his social media account: “Glad to announce that Seven is the new principal sponsor for Everest Premier League 2021 Season.”

“We are eagerly looking forward to this opportunity as it will play an integral role in strengthening cricketing relations between India & Nepal,” he had added.

Earlier, the EPL was initially scheduled to start on March 14 however, the tournament was forced to be postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic.

ECN onboards FanCode as exclusive broadcaster in India for new international T10 league

European Cricket Network (ECN) has announced FanCode, India’s premier digital sports destination for all fans, as the exclusive broadcast partner in India for the newly launched international T10 league, ‘Dream11 European Cricket Championship (ECC21)’.

Boasting all the hallmarks of a ‘Mini World Cup in Europe’ and sanctioned by the ICC, Cricket Espana will host the first edition of ECC21 at the picturesque Cartama Oval, Spain. The month-long championship will begin on September 13.

The comprehensive partnership between ECN and Dream Sports, the parent company of Dream11 and FanCode, will bring the holistic experience of ECC21 to Indian sports fans and Dream Sports’ 125 million users. FanCode will be the Official Broadcast Partner in India and Dream11 the Title Sponsor and Official Fantasy Sports Partner.

ECC21 will witness 15 national teams, including representatives from England, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and the hosts Spain, competing in the inaugural edition with close to 100 matches between September 13 and October 8. The new and fresh venture sees 15 teams in three groups of five, with each group meeting over a separate week of T10 action.

Each group will feature 24 T10 games – a double round-robin and a playoff. The leading two countries in each group will advance to a Finals Week scheduled from October 4-8 in Spain.

Dream Sports set to infuse $250m in startups

Dream Sports, an Indian sports media and technology company, has formed a $250 million corporate venture fund for investing in startups across platforms sports, gaming and fitness technology.

The investment will be done through its newly launched ‘Dream Capital’ arm.

Dream Sports’ Founder and Chief executive Harsh Jain has said that the company is mulling to make investments of more than US$1 million and with the potential to invest as much as US$100 million.

“We want to redeploy our Ebitda and re-invest further into inorganic growth because, while organic growth continues, we don’t want to fall into that age-old trap of trying to do everything ourselves,” Jain was quoted as saying by Economic Times.

“We are good at something, and we’ll continue to grow that. What we do want is to back entrepreneurs, and to invest in other founders,” he added.

According to ET, Dream Capital will be fully funded by Dream Sports. It has already made eight investments.

Dream Sports, which is the parent company of fantasy gaming platform Dream11, already has an investment arm called Dream Sports Investments (DIS).

Recently, DIS had invested US$50 million in FanCode, a multi-sport aggregator platform.

FanCode to exclusively broadcast The Hundred in India

FanCode, India’s premier digital sports destination, has bagged exclusive four-year broadcast rights for England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) new format cricket competition – The Hundred, in India.

The action-packed 100-ball cricket competition will include 68 matches played over five weeks starting July 21, 2021. The game has eight women’s and men’s teams from major cities across England and Wales.

ECB’s The Hundred is an entirely new format of cricket. It has 100 balls per innings, wherein the bowling changes ends every ten balls. Bowlers deliver either five or ten consecutive balls, and each bowler can deliver a maximum of 20 balls per game. A 25-ball powerplay for each team allows two fielders outside of the initial 30-yard circle. Each of the eight squads will have 15 players with a maximum of three overseas stars.

The partnership between ECB and Dream Sports, the parent company of Dream11 and FanCode, is a comprehensive sports deal. FanCode will be the Official Broadcast Partner in India and Dream11 an Official Partner.
