T20 Asia Cup: Md Wasim Jr ruled out, Hasan Ali named as replacement

Pakistan pacer Mohammad Wasim Jr has been ruled out of the upcoming T20 Asia Cup due to a left side strain, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Friday.

Meanwhile, the PCB has named Hasan Ali as the replacement for the injured fast bowler.

Notably, Wasim had picked up a side strain during a practice session on August 25. He then complained of pain during the session and following a medical assessment by the staff and an MRI scan in Dubai, Wasim he was ruled out.

“The findings were discussed with the PCB Medical Advisory Committee, while an independent review by a specialist physiotherapist was also sought. The medical team will closely monitor Wasim’s rehabilitation and his return to competitive cricket will be reassessed before the England tour to Pakistan,” the PCB said in a statement.

“Meanwhile, Hasan Ali has been named as Wasim’s replacement, which is subject to the Event Technical Committee’s approval. Hasan Ali was sought as a replacement player by the team management and the request was accepted by the chief selector,” it added.

Now, Hasan Ali’s inclusion is a subject to the Event Technical Committee’s approval. As soon as the ETC approves Hasan as a replacement player, the bowler will depart for the UAE.

Significantly, Hasan had been in the National High-Performance Centre for the past three weeks and is presently in Rawalpindi, preparing for the National T20, which commences on August 30.

Pakistan will begin their campaign in the continental tournament against arch-rivals India on August 28 in Dubai.
