Streets named after Kapil, Sachin, Virat in Melbourne housing state

A housing estate in Melbourne will have streets named after Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli as well as other international cricket starts.

Accolade Estate developers Resi Ventrues have named the lanes as Dev Terrace, Tendulkar Drive and Kohli Crescent in their new project at Melbourne’s Rockbank suburb, which also has Waugh Street, Miandad Street, Ambrose Street, Sobers Drive, Kallis Way, Hadlee Street and Akram Way.

Expatriate Indians form a majority of resident in the suburb under the Melton Council

“The response from the Indian community has been exceptionally good and high ever since the launch of the H&L packages,” Elissa Hayes of Resi Venture has told PTI.

The developers had also submitted Sir Donald Bradman’s name among sixty choices, but it was declined as Melbourne already has a lane named after the legend.

“We didn’t get Kumar Sangakara, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni and a few others as council knocked them back for one reason or another,” Resi Ventures director Khurram Saeed said.

“We did get Tendulkar and Kohli over the line with the council. Kohli is one of my favourite batsmen of the current era and I named the most expensive street after him, overlooking the future wetlands,” Khurram added.
