Sri Lanka’s wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Perera has tested positive for Covid-19, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said on Monday.
Perera, who will turn 31 on Tuesday, was forced to miss the recent limited-overs home series against India because of injury.
He will now have to isolate for two weeks as per the health protocols in his country which raises doubts over his participation in the upcoming home series against South Africa, starting on September 2 in Colombo.
“He was found to be positive during a PCR test which was carried out on the players yesterday (Sunday),” the SLC said in a statement.
South Africa is scheduled to play three one-day internationals and as many T20Is.
Earlier, Perera was removed as Sri Lanka captain following the tour by England at the start of the year.
Perera has played 22 tests, 107 ODIs and 50 Twenty20 matches for Sri Lanka, slamming two tons in tests and six in the 50-over format.
