Kohli & Gambhir fined 100% match fees following verbal spat

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opener Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir and Naveen-ul-Haq were involved in a verbal spat after the match following which the trio have been fined.

“Lucknow Super Giants’ Mentor Gautam Gambhir has been fined 100 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.

“Gambhir admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct,” IPL said in a statement

Kohli has been fined 100 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. Kohli admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct, the statement read.

“Lucknow Super Giants’ Bowler Naveen-ul-Haq has been fined 50 per cent of his match fees. Naveen-ul-Haq admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct,” it added.

Notably, RCB defeated Lucknow by 18 runs in a low-scoring clash at the Ekana stadium on Monday night.

Opting to bat, RCB managed to put a modest 126/9 in the allotted 20 overs, thanks to Kohli’s 31 and skipper Faf du Plessis valuable 44 on a low scoring pitch in Lucknow.

In return, the hosts were jolted at regular intervals as the RCB bowlers made full use of the conditions and pitch, wrapping up the LSG innings at 108 runs in 19.5 overs.
