Kohli becomes top run-scorer in T20 World Cup history

India run-machine Virat Kohli on Wednesday added another another feather to illustrious hat as he became the highest run-scorer in Twenty20 World Cup history.

The former India captain achieved the feat when he reached his individual score of 16 against Bangladesh in the Super 12 game of the ongoing tournament at Adelaide on Wednesday.

Kohli surpassed former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene’s total of 1,016 runs in his 23rd innings in T20 World Cups. He played his 113th T20 international for India since making his debut in the shorter format in 2010.

Congratulating him, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tweeted: “Yet another milestone unlocked”.

In the crunch Super 12 game in Adelaide on Wednesday, Bangladesh won the toss and asked India to bat first.

Coming to the crease at 11-1, Kohli once again anchored the Indian innings with wickets falling at the other end and went on to play a significant 64-run unbeaten knock against the Bangla Tiers. HIs unbeaten 64 alon with opener KL Rahul’s 50 helped India post a challening 184/6 against the Shakib-Al-Hasan-led side.

Kohli had recently led India to a memorable victory over arch-rivals Pakistan with an unbeaten 82 and later scored another fifty in the next game against the Netherlands.
