Jatin Sapru explains Impact Player rule on Star Sports

The upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 will see an introduction of a new rule, called the ‘Impact Player’, which is set to keep the game exciting for fans and challenging for players.

This rule allows teams to use an extra specialist bowler or batter depending on the situation in a match. The rule aims to add a strategic dimension to the game, allowing teams to make tactical changes based on the match situation.

One of the most significant changes that come with the Impact Player rule is that the playing XI can now be named after the toss by the captains. This means that teams can assess the conditions and opposition before deciding on their final lineup.

With this change, the game will effectively become 12 vs 12, although only 11 can bat. Additionlly, if the starting XI already consists of four overseas players, the impact player must not be a foreign player. However, if the first XI comprises less than four overseas players, a non-Indian impact player can be introduced.

Star Sports, official television broadcasters of the TATA IPL 2023, posted a video on their social media handles explaining the Impact Player rule. The video features Star Sports talent Jatin Sapru, who explains the intricacies of the rule and its impact on the match.

In the video, Sapru breaks down the rule and provides examples of when it can be used to benefit a team’s performance. He highlights the flexibility that the rule provides to teams in terms of making tactical changes based on the match situation.

Sapru also discusses how the rule will affect the team composition, with the addition of an extra specialist bowler or batter.

The introduction of the Impact Player rule is an exciting development for the TATA IPL and could potentially change the way cricket is played. Teams will now have the flexibility to tailor their team composition to the match situation, giving them a better chance of success.

It will also add an extra layer of intrigue for fans, who will be keenly watching to see how teams utilise the new rule.
