Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of T20 World Cup, confirms BCCI

Ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been officially ruled out of the upcoming T20 WOrld Cup with a back injury, the BCCI announced on Monday.

Issuing a statement, the BCCI revealed that the decision was taken following a detailed assessment and in consultation with the specialists.

“The BCCI Medical team has ruled out Team India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad. The decision was taken following a detailed assessment and in consultation with the specialists,” the statement said.

“Bumrah, was initially ruled out from the ongoing Mastercard 3-match T20I series against South Africa due to a back injury. The BCCI will be naming a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah in the squad for the marquee tournament soon,” it added.

Before Bumrah, star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was also ruled out of the showpiece event last month with a knee injury.

Recently, Bumrah was forced to miss the Asia Cup due to his back injury. He was later declared fit for the three-match T20I series against Australia at home. The Indian pacer was out of international cricket since July this year.

After missing the first T20I against Australia in Mohali, he aapeared in the seocnd T20I and bowled two overs for 23 runs for just a wicket. In the final match of the series in Hyderabad, Bumrah leaked 50 runs from his allotted quota of four overs and remained wicketless.

After this unfortunate development, the senior national selection committee will likely pick either Mohammad Shami or Deepak Chahar, who have been added as stand bye players for the tournament.
