The live action begins as IPL chairman Brijesh Patel addressed the franchises with BCCI representatives Sourav Ganguly, Rajeev Shukla, Jay Shah, Pragyan Ojha and others present at the auction.

Hello and welcome to the live coverage of the IPL auction 2022.

The IPL auction 2022 will be a mega auction as it is slated to take place for the grandest-ever IPL, IPL 2022.

A total of 590 players will go under the hammer in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on February 18 and 19. Among the 590 cricketers, a total of 228 are capped players while 355 are uncapped and seven belong to associate nations.

A total of 370 Indian players and 220 overseas cricketers will be up for grabs, with as many as 48 players having chosen to place themselves in the Rs 2 crore bracket.

On the other hand, 20 players in the auction list carry a reserve price of Rs 1.5 crore while 34 are on the list of cricketers with a reserve price of Rs 1 crore.

IPL Auction 2022: The Story So Far

As per the rules laid out by the BCCI, the existing 8 franchises were allowed to retain a maximum of up to 4 players ahead of the auction with each team retaining not more than 3 Indian players and not more than 2 Overseas players.

The two new teams – Lucknow Super Giants and Ahmedabad Titans- were allowed to retain three players from the list of released players by the 8 old teams with each of the two new teams not being allowed to retain a maximum of 2 Indian Players and 1 Overseas player.

While the Supergiants went ahead with KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi as their 3 retentions, the Titans went for the services of all-rounder Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill as their 3 retentions ahead of IPL auction 2022.

KL Rahul was named the captain of the Lucknow Supergiants franchise and Gujarat Titans named Hardik Pandya as their skipper for the 2022 edition of the cash-rich league.
