IPL 2022: Ravindra Jadeja ruled out of ongoing season

In a massive setback for four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 due to injury, the franchise confirmed late on Wednesday (May 11).

Jadeja, 33, had sustained the injury on his rib during his side’s clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on May 4 following which he was forced to miss his team’s last game against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday.

Issuing a statement, CSK said: “Ravindra Jadeja reported a bruised rib and was unavailable for Chennai Super Kings’ game against Delhi Capitals on Sunday. He was under observation and based on medical advice he has been ruled out for the rest of the IPL season.”

Notably, Jadeja had a poor outing in the ongoing season as he could only manage 116 runs from ten innings at an average of 19.33 and a strike rate of 118.36. The all-rounder also performed poorly with the ball as he could only scalp five wickets from 33 overs at an average of nearly 50.

According to few reports, CSK had monitored Jadeja’s injury closely over the past couple of days and had noticed that it has not improved much.

With the MS Dhoni-led side set to take on Mumbai Indians (MI) on Thursday, the loss of the star all-rounder will not be the best thing to have happened for the side as it has very slim chances to qualify for the IPL Playoffs.

Earlier, Jadeja had started the ongoing season as the captain of the side however, he later decided to step down midway after a string of poor performances in the current tournament following which Dhoni had to once again take up the mantle of captaincy.

Significantly, CSK have four wins from 11 games so far in the ongoing season.

In order to qualify for the next stage, CSK have to first win all their remaining games and then depend on the results of other games. For the Yellow Brigade, only a miracle can see them through to the Playoffs.

As of now, the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) are the only side to have sealed a playoffs’ berth.
