IPL 2021: Windies cricketers are back home safely, informs CWI CEO

Cricket West Indies (CWI) CEO Johnny Grave has informed that all the Caribbean players, who were part of the just postponed Indian Premier League’s (IPL) 14th edition, have reached back home after some serious efforts by the BCCI and the player’s respective franchises in the tournament.

Notably, the 2021 season of the lucrative league was postponed on May 4 as multiple COVID-19 positive cases surfaced in the tournament’s secured bio-bubble, particularly in the second-leg of the league.

“Our IPL players, along with the West Indians who were part of the TV production, are now safely back in the Caribbean. We are grateful to the BCCI and IPL Franchises for arranging their safe travel back to the Caribbean so quickly,” Cricket West Indies tweeted.

Several ace caribbean players like Kieron Pollard, Jason Holder, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, and Fabien Allen were a part of the lucrative league.

As per reports, except Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batting coach Michael Hussey and Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) batsman Tim Seifert, all the overseas cricketers and support staffs have left the Covid-hit India.

Meanwhile, the entire Australian contingent, along with a few Kiwi cricketers, are currently in Maldives, who are waiting for their onward journey after serving out quarantine as Australia has imposed a ban on flights from India till May 15 because of the recent spike in Covid-19 case here.
