IPL 2021 player’s auction reportedly on Feb 18

If media reports are to be believed, the player’s auction for the upcoming edition of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season is likely to be held on February 18.

However, the BCCI is yet to finalize the venue of this year’s showpiece event, which was forced to be held in the UAE in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. According to sources, BCCI Chief Sourav Ganguly is trying his best to host the glitzy event at its home.

India will soon host England for a four-match Test series which will be followed by a five-match T20I and three-match ODI rubber which would pave the way for the lucrative league to be held at home.

In case the lucrative tournament doesn’t gets held in India, UAE will once again be the preferred venue by the BCCI.

Significantly, COVID-19 protocols will play a deciding role in conducting the venue of IPL.

Notably, Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians had defeated Delhi Capitals by 5 wickets in the IPL 2020 summit clash in November last year to clinch their record-extending fifth IPL title.

In the 2020 season, Kings XI Punjab skipper KL Rahul had bagged the Orange Cap for being the leading run-scorer of the season after amassing 670 runs from 14 games while Delhi Capitals’ star pacer Kagiso Rabada won the Purple Cap after bagging 30 wickets.
