IPL 2020 LIVE: Opener on Star Gold; regional cinema channels

Star Sports will be deploying over 700 men force and a 90-strong commentary panel for the Indian Premier League LIVE production and broadcast. Eyeing a record 550 million audience for the 53-day, 60-match competition, the Indian Premier League host broadcaster has devised a plan to reach out to audiences across different genres, in different markets.

Besides the traditional Star Sports network channels, the Walt Disney Company-owned broadcaster will also air the IPL LIVE action across various movie and GEC channels. The strategy will also be followed in the regional markets.

Among the regular sports channels, Star Sports 1 Hindi, Star Sports 1 Hindi HD, Star Sports 2 Hindi, Star Sports 2 Hindi HD, Star Sports 1 SD and HD, as well as Star Sports 2 HD and SD channels, will beam all the IPL games LIVE. A call is yet to be made on putting the IPL games on Star Sports 3 channels – both Hindi and English SD and HD.

IPL Dugout will be back on Star Sports Select without any breaks during the entire stretch of the league.

Star Sports in its first IPL 2020 campaign video did not elaborate on the number of channels to be dedicated to the league broadcast. SportzFront, however, has managed to access the IPL 2020 broadcast plan exclusively for its readers.

There is an advanced strategy in place to extend the broadcast reach. The IPL games on the opening day, weekends and from the knockout stage onwards will also be put on the premier movie channels across different regional networks.

Star Gold along with regional movie channels like Maa Movies (Telugu), Jalsha Movies (Bangla), Star Suvarna (Kannada) and Asianet Movies (Malayalam) will broadcast the IPL Season 13 opener LIVE. The movie channels will also televise the games on Saturdays and Sundays as well as all the matches from the knockout stage.

Cricket fans in Bengal, or Bangla-speaking fans, might get all the IPL LIVE action on Jalsha Movies. A call is yet to be made whether to broadcast the league on Star Sports 1 Bangla or not. However, Star Sports 1 Tamil, Star Sports 1 Telugu, Star Sports 1 Kannada and Star Sports 1 Malayalam will broadcast all the 53 games LIVE with the regional language off tube commentary.

SportzFront was the first to report on August 13 that the Star India has decided to switch the live streaming from the Disney+ Hotstar to the premium OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar VIP.
