Jio subscribers this year might not get the Indian Premier League LIVE streaming free on Hotstar.
Star India, as reported by SportzFront yesterday, has decided to move the IPL LIVE streaming form Disney+ Hotstar to the Disney+ Hotstar Premium.
Since the star is switching the IPL streaming to the higher paid subscription, there is little chance that the IPL media partner will allow the free offerings on any other platform.
It is highly unlikely that this year Reliance Jio will get the free IPL streaming deal on Hotstar for its subscribers.
“In March negotiations regarding streaming of live IPL matches on Jio TV through Hotstar were still on, but the parties had not come to an agreement. The deal is supposedly off now. However, you would not know until the last minute, anything can happen,” Exchange4media has quoted an anonymous expert as saying.
Star India has also accepted the fact that the switch to the Diney+ Hotstar Premium will adversely affect the IPL 2020 digital reach. There is not much concern for that in the broadcaster’s new IPL business model.
Star TV is planning to give a big boost to grow its digital distribution through massive advertising and marketing campaigns.
