IPL 2020: COVID-19 penetrates into Rajasthan Royals camp

A week before departure to the United Arab Emirates for the Indian Premier League, Rajasthan Royals are faced with a COVID-19 concern. Team’s fielding coach Dishant Yagnik has tested positive for novel coronavirus infection.

A former first-class cricketer from Rajasthan, Yagnik has shared the information on his official twitter handle @Dishantyagnik77.

“I have tested COVID positive. Please get tested if you have been in contact with me in the last 10 days. In line with BCCI protocols I will be now quarantining for 14 days,” Yagnik has stated in the tweet.

He will now need two negative test reports to join the team, which will be assembling in Mumbai next week for departure to the UAE.

Yagnik was reported COVID-19 positive following the test process initiated by the team as part of the standard operating procedures for the IPL 2020.

A wicketkeeper-batsman, who had also represented Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, has been advised hospitalisation at his hometown – Udaipur.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals have confirmed that the fielding coach will have to have to negative test reports before joining the squad.

“Post 14 days, Dishant will be undergoing two tests as per the protocols of BCCI. On return of two negative reports, he will be allowed to join the team after self-isolating for 6 days and receiving 3 further negative tests upon his arrival in the UAE,” read a Rajasthan Royals statement.

“We request everyone who has been in close proximity to Dishant in the past 10 days to self-isolate and get tested for Covid-19,” the statement added.

Fortunately, no other team member or official has contacted with Yagnik in the past ten days.

“We can confirm that no Rajasthan Royals or other IPL players have been in close proximity to Dishant in the past 10 days. We wish Dishant a speedy recovery and look forward to him joining the Royals camp soon in the UAE,” added the statement.

The teams will live in a biosecure bubble in the UAE during the IPL 2020 in the UAE from September 19 to November 10.
