IPL 2020: Big blow to Delhi Capitals; Mishra out with injury

Delhi Capitals have suffered a severe blow during their win over Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday.

The JSW and GMR groups-owned team had prevailed over the Knights by 18 runs in Sharjah. Three wins from four outings have assured the Shreyas Iyer-led team a second position in the IPL 2020 points table.

However, in the process of halting the KKR chase, Delhi Capitals have lost one of their key players. This means skipper Iyer will still remain a bowling option short even as offspinner Ravichandran Ashwin is back after recovering from the shoulder injury he had sustained during the team’s season opener.

Amit Mishra, who bowled an economical spell of 14 runs from two overs and grabbed the crucial wicket of dangerous opener Shubhman Gill, has been ruled out with an injury.

Mishra has been ruled out for the remainder of the current season of the Dream11 Indian Premier League, Delhi Capitals have stated in a Press release.

Mishra was the third-highest wicket-taker for the Capitals in the IPL and had featured in their last three matches. He had taken just three wickets but at an economy rate of 7.20. All his three wickets were top-order batsmen, including David Warner and Manish Pandey against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Shubman Gill in the match against the Knight Riders where he bowled just two overs before leaving the field with the injury.

The 37-year-old leg-spinner sustained a flexor tendon injury to the ring finger of his bowling hand whilst attempting to take a return catch during the match against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Sharjah.

Mishra will now consult with a specialist over the next few days to determine the most appropriate course of management for this unfortunate injury.

Delhi Capitals have six points after four games, winning three and losing one. They are placed behind defending champions Mumbai Indians, who have won three and lost two of their five outings but enjoy a better run rate than the Delhi outfit.
