IPL 2020: Bengaluru crime branch arrests four for betting

The Central Crime Branch of the Bengaluru Police has unearthed a racket indulging in betting on the ongoing Indian Premier League 2020 matches.

The CCB has reportedly arrested four people and seized around ₹ 5 lakh from them.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Bengaluru Police, Sandeep Patil has confirmed that close to ₹ 5 lakh is seized from the four accused during the raid. “The betting was done through online apps,” Patil said and added that the betting was done using applications like Lotusbook, Cric365day and Falcon.

Police tracked the apps’ location to carry out raids at three places in the Puttenahalli, Konanakunte and Byatarayanapura police station limits. The four accused were reportedly arrested with ₹ 4.91 lakh cash. The police have also seized six mobile phones.

Bengaluru Police’s crime branch last year had also unearthed a match-fixing racked during the local cricket league.

This is not the first incident of betting on the IPL games in Karnataka. The Central Crime Branch, Bengaluru Police, has arrested nine people in two separate incidents last month and seized over ₹ 15 lakh.

In the first incident on September 23, six people were allegedly nabbed for betting on the IPL matches and ₹ 6 lakh was seized from them.

On September 28, CCB had reportedly arrested three more persons and confiscated ₹ 9.5 lakh and three mobile phones. The people were allegedly indulging in sports betting.

The CCB has reportedly formed a special team to tap betting during the IPL.
