India’s Lanka tour for limited-overs series on schedule; Dravid likely to coach tourists

Despite the worsening Covid-19 situation both in India and Sri Lanka, the Men in Blue’s limited overs tour to the neighbouring island nation is on schedule as of now, where former cricketer Rahul Dravid is likly to get the first taste of coaching the senior team.

Both the boards are currently working on finalsing the schedule for the tour and an official announcement is expected to be made soon.

Following the announcement by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Wednesday that Asia Cup T20 tournament won’t happen due to Covid-19 pandemic, there was speculation that India’s white ball series could also be called off however, nothing as such has happened till now.

Also, several reports, quoting unnamed BCCI officials, have said that the tour is on the cards even after the cancellation of the Asia Cup.

The Indian team is likly to play a three-match T20I series and a five-match ODI series against the islanders.

Meanwhile, as the regular India coaching staff, including head coach Ravi Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun and batting coach Vikram Rathour, will be on tour in England for five Test matches and the World Test Championship (WTC) final at the same time, Dravid, whohas the  experience of coaching the A and under-19 teams, is likely to take the charge of coaching in the tour.

Significantly, Dravid has earned tremendous respect for unearthing and grooming young talents.

Also as per multiple reports, ace opener Shikhar Dhawan is expected to be appointed as the skipper however, the BCCI is yet to make an official announcement.
