India willing to host 2036, 2040 Olympics: IOC Chief

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach has said that India are among a host of countries, who are willing to stage the Olympic Games in 2036, 2040 and further.

The IOC had recently announced that the Australian city of Brisbane will host the 2032 Olympics.

After Brisbane, several other nations like India, Indonesia, Germany and Qatar had wished to host the showpiece event before the IOC, Bach said in a report in the Wall Street Journal.

“And this is just the ones which come to my mind. So we are really in a very good long-term position,” Bach was quoted as saying by the WSJ.

Meanwhile, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Secretary General Rajeev Mehta had reportedly said that they were interested in hosting the mega event.

“In a meeting of an IOC Commission via video conference before Tokyo Olympics, IOA had expressed interest in hosting Olympics in 2036 and beyond,” Mehta had said.

Earlier in March this year, Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had said they would make every effort and upgrade the sporting infrastructure to bid for the 2048 Games.

India has also showed interest in hosting the 2030 Asian Games and the 2026 Youth Olympic Games.

However, the 2030 and 2034 Asian Games were awarded to Qatar and Riyadh, respectively, in December.
