India extend lead at top of T20I rankings after series win over Oz

The Rohit Sharma-led Team India has extended its lead at the top of the ICC Men’s T20I Rankings after a historic 2-1 series win over Australia.

The series win helped the Rohit Sharma-led side improve their T20I team ranking by one point to 268 points overall, which is a seven-point lead over their closest rival in England, which are the second spot with 261 points.

On Sunday, India overhauled the 187-run target in the third T20I to seal a 2-1 series win over the touring side in Hyderabad. After the series loss, sixth-placed Australia dropped one point to 250 points overall.

On the other hand, England suffered a close defeat in the fourth T20I against hosts Pakistan which helped the Men in Blue increase their buffer at the head of proceedings, with Matthew Mott’s team falling to a narrow three-run loss in Karachi.

England will maintain second place in the rankings if they win one of those contests, while South Africa will get the chance to stake their claim when they take on India in a three-match series that commences on Wednesday.

The Men in Green are currently tied with the Proteas at the third place in the team rankings with 258 points, but could rise as high as second by winning the remaining three matches against England.

Meanwhile, New Zealand remain in its fifth place in the T20I team rankings with a total of 252 points. The Kane Williamson-led side will next host Pakistan and Bangladesh for a tri-series on home soil.
