ICC initiates process to elect Independent Chairman

The International Cricket Council has initiated the process to find the successor of Shashank Manohar, who had quit as the Independent Chair in July this year.

The ICC Board today (Monday) confirmed the process for the election of its next Chairperson is underway and is expected to be concluded by early December.

The process, which is being overseen by the Independent Chairman of the ICC Audit Committee, has commenced and the first stage is for the nominations of potential candidates to be made by current Board Directors by October 18. Any nominee will then need to be seconded by another Board Director to become a candidate in the election.

As outlined in the ICC Constitution, to be eligible, potential candidates must be either a current or former ICC Director.

Manohar was eligible for another term. But he had declined to continue in the office for the third successive time.

England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Colin Graves and ex Cricket West Indies chief Dave Cameron have both confirmed their candidature for the ICC Chair.

While Graves enjoys the support of several cricket boards, Cameron will need at least two full ICC members to nominate his name for the post. While one nomination is expected to come from Cricket West Indies in spite of him not being on very good terms with CWI head Ricky Skerritt, he will have to garner one more vote to confirm his candidature.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India president Sourav Ganguly is also being tipped to contest for the elite ICC post. However, neither the BCCI nor Ganguly have disclosed their plans so far.
