Hours before 1st ODI vs B’desh, 3 Sri Lanka cricketers test positive for Covid-19

Just few hours before the start of the ODI rubber between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in Dhaka, three members of the touring party have reportedly tested positive for Covid-19, raising a doubt over the three-match series.

As per reports, two players and a coach of Sri Lanka have returned positive for the virus before the first ODI, which is a part of the World Cup Super League. The three members are Isuru Udana, newcomer Shiran Fernando and bowling coach Chaminda Vaas.

As per reports, the visitors are now awaiting the results of a second PCR test on Sunday morning.

The first ODI which is due to begin at 12:30 pm (IST) is now unsure to go as per schedule but, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials have said the game will be held as per schedule.

The report had come after many Sri Lankan newspapers had reported earlier this month that all the Sri Lankan players had received their first dose of vaccine.

Earlier on May 10, two Sri Lankan cricketers — all-rounders Dhananjaya Lakshan and Ishan Jayaratne — who were a part of the provisional 28-member squad for the England tour next month, had tested positive and were quarantined for 14 days however, they were not part of the 18-member squad that left for Dhaka on May 16.
