IPL commentator, former Australia cricket Dean Jones dead

Former Australian all-rounder Dean Jones is dead. He was 59.

Jones, affectionately called Prof. Deano, was on the Star Sports commentary panel for the Indian Premier League. He died of a sudden cardiac arrest. The IPL host broadcaster has confirmed his untimely demise.

He was staying in a Mumbai hotel in a bio-secure bubble created for the IPL broadcast team.

“We express our deep condolences to his family and stand ready to support them in this difficult time. We are in touch with the Australian High Commission to make the necessary arrangements,” Star Sports stated in a Press release.

“Dean Jones was one of the great ambassadors of the game associating himself with Cricket development across South Asia. He was passionate about discovering new talent and nurturing young Cricketers. He was a champion commentator whose presence and presentation of the game always brought joy to millions of fans. He will be sorely missed by everyone at Star and his millions of fans across the globe.”

The Victorian cricketer had represented Australia 52 Test matches, scoring 3631 runs at an average of 46.55. His 11 centuries included the career-best knock of 216.

Jones also scored 6,068 runs in 164 One Day Internationals with 46 fifties.
