Finance Minsiter hails Team India’s memorable series win during budget speech

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday lauded Team India’s stunning series victory over Australia in the recently held Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

“I cannot help but recall the joy that we as a cricket-loving nation felt after Team India’s recent spectacular success in Australia. It has reminded us of all the qualities that we as people, particularly our youth, epitomise of having abundant promise and the unsuppressed thirst to perform and to succeed,” Sitharaman said during her 2021-22 Budget speech.

Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also hailed Team India for their magnificent win.

“This month, we got good news from the cricket pitch. After initial hiccups, the Indian team bounced back gloriously and won the series in Australia. Our team’s hard work and teamwork were inspiring,” PM Modi had said in his radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’.

Responding to the PM Modi, India’s head coach Ravi Shastri took to Twitter and said: “Thank you, Sir. Your kind words will further strengthen #TeamIndia and the country’s resolve to perform under pressure and in trying circumstances. Jai Hind.”

Significantly, the Ajinkya Rahane-led Indian cricket team had defeated Australia by three wickets in the fourth and final Test to clinch the series 2-1.

The series win also helped India to claim the second spot in the ICC Test Team rankings.
