Facebook not to renew Champions League, La Liga contracts

Facebook, the online social media and social networking platform, has decided not to renew its soccer media rights deals for the Uefa Champions League in Latin America and Spain’s La Liga in India.

The information was given by Rob Shaw, the company’s director of sports league and media partnerships.

The contracts, which were signed in 2018, are due to expire this year, and Shaw said that the social networking platform hasn’t enter a bid to extend the agreements.

Facebook’s three-year Champions League deal covered exclusive free-to-air rights for 32 live matches each season from European club soccer’s premier competition.

On the other hand, its partnership with La Liga included every match in Spain’s top flight between the 2018-19 and 2020-21 season.
