CWG 2022: Indian women’s cricket team qualify for the medal rounds with win over Barbados

The Indian women’s cricket team registered a dominant show in their final pool game to reach the semifinals after registering an emphatic 100-run victory over Barbados and assuring a medal.

Riding on an unbeaten 56 from Jemimah Rodrigues and cameos from Shafali Verma (43) and Deepti Sharma (34 not out) helped India register a mammoth 162/4 in their allotted 20 overs. In result, Barbados could only manage 62/8 in reply as as Renuka Singh rattled their top order and returned with impressive figures of 4/10.

Kyshona Knight was the top-scorer for Barbados with 16 runs while recently-retired all-rounder Deandra Dottin was out for a duck in her final international match.

Apart from Renika, Meghna Singh, Sneh Rana, Radha Yadav and Harmanpreet Kaur all chipped in with one wicket apiece.

The victory assured India a medal as it qulaified for the semi-finals and a second place finish in Group A, with their next opponent to be decided after the final Group B matches on Thursday.

India will face either hosts England or New Zealand in Saturday’s semifinals.

Brief scores: India Women 162-4 in 20 overs (Shafali Verma 43, Jemimiah Rodrigues 56 not out, Deepti Sharma 34 not out) beat Barbados Women 62/8 in 20 overs (Renuka Singh 4-10) by 100 runs.
