Bumrah likely to miss IPL 2023 & WTC Final: Report

Star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah is expected to miss the upcoming season of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) and the final of World Test Championship (WTC) as his comeback from injury might take some more time.

Notably, the star pacer has been out of cricketing action since September 2022 due to which he had missed major tournaments like Asia Cup and T20 World Cup last year.

Bumrah had also failed to make to the Indian squad for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy which is crucial for India to get a place in WTC final.

As of now, his chances for appearance in IPL 2023 for Mumbai Indians also look very slim.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, Bumrah’s injury is quite serious as the BCCI sources have stated that he might miss a huge chunk of cricket in the coming months which might also include the WTC final if India manages to qualify for it.

The report further suggested that the Indian board wants Bumrah to get ready for the ODI World Cup in October-November and they don’t want to take any risk regarding his injury as he is still feeling uncomfortable.

“Sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the IPL circles have indicated that Bumrah, out of international action for almost five months, has not been feeling comfortable and he is staring at a potentially long hiatus,” the report said.

”According to sources, the target for the Indian team is to get him ready for the World Cup in October-November, if not necessarily for the Asia Cup, wherever it is held,” it added.

Bumrah had last played for India in a T20I match against Australia at home on September 25, 2022 and has been rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru since then.

Earlier, the right-arm pacer was all set to make a return to competitive cricket against Sri Lanka  in January 2023 however, he was ruled out later after failing to recover in time.

Meanwhile, it will also be a massive blow for Mumbai Indians, who will be eyeing to bounce back in the upcoming IPL season after a disastrous outing in the previous one where they had finished at the bottom of points table with just four wins from 14 matches.
