Bangladesh Premier League to begin from Jan 21

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced that the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 2022 will start on 21 January, which is a domestic 20-over competition.

The six teams to participate in the tournament will be Barishal (Fortune Shoes Limited), Chattogram (Delta Sports Limited-Akhtar Group), Cumilla (Comilla Legends Limited), Dhaka (Rupa Fabrics Ltd & Marn Steel Ltd (Consortium), Khulna (Mind Tree Ltd), Sylhet (Pragoti Green Auto Rice Mills Ltd).

As per reports, Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet will be the three host venues for the 36-match six-team affair. The entire tournament will be played in double round robin league format and will witness three play-offs and a final.

The final of the tournament is scheduled to be held on February 18 in Dhaka.

It was also announced that the Player Draft of BPL 2022 will be held at Radisson Blu Water Garden, Dhaka on December 27 and each of the franchise will be allowed to include three overseas players in the playing XI for any game.

Meanwhile, a team can also recruit one local player from any category as a direct signing prior to the Player Draft.

A team will be free to register a minimum of ten and a maximum of fourteen local players and barring the one direct signing, all other local players must be obtained from the Player Draft.

However, it has also been decided that the number of registered Bangladeshi players for each team cannot exceed fourteen at any point during the event.

The champions of the T20 league will earn BDT 1 Crore while the runners-up will receive BDT 50 Lac.

Moreover, BPL governing council member secretary Ismail Haider Mallick said that they will hold a meeting with the respective franchises so that the national team players are compensated if they miss few games as they are likely to be on a break after the ongoing tour of New Zealand.

“We will talk with the franchises so that if they miss a couple of matches they will be compensated and I don’t think it will be a problem,” he said.
