Blow to Chennai Super Kings; Harbhajan opts out of IPL 2020

Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has confirmed that he will not participate in the Indian Premier League 2020 due to personal reasons. The news comes as a blow to Chennai Super Kings on the day they were scheduled to start their training in Dubai.

The CSK were to hit the ground for the first time in Dubai today (Friday) to build up for the IPL 2020. The team has to earlier go into an extended quarantine after 13 of its contingent members, including medium-pacer Deepak Chahar and wicketkeeper-batsman Ruturaj Gaekwad, had tested positive for COVID-19. All members other than the positive cases have been reported negative in the second successive test and cleared to join the training.

Harbhajan, citing the mother’s illness, had not travelled with the team to the UAE. He further delayed his departure and as the Mahender Singh Dhoni-led squad was expecting his arrival the Turbanator has confirmed that he would be “missing the upcoming IPL due to personal reasons”.

Veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh, who plays for Chennai Super Kings, has pulled out of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League citing personal reasons. The development was on expected lines as the off-spinner was yet to join the team in UAE.

“I have pulled out of IPL due to personal reasons,” Harbhajan has confirmed. The 40-year-old is present with his family in Jallandhar, Punjab. He has requested for privacy.

“I have informed the CSK management about my decision to pull out of this year’s IPL. I have decided to take a break due to personal reasons in these difficult times. I expect that everyone would respect my need for privacy,” Harbhajan said.
