BCCI mulling for Team India’s visit to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is mulling for Team India’s visit to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023.

As a result of the ongoing political tensions between the two countries, India has not toured Pakistan for a long time and even though travelling to Pakistan next year would be subject to approval from the government, it is certainly on BCCI’s agenda.

A recent report in Cricbuzz has stated that the BCCI circulated a note on the team’s plans to feature in several multilateral events for the next year to the state associations ahead of the board’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled to take place on October 18.

The report also said that India’s visit to Pakistan for the Asia Cup in 2023 will, of course, be subject to the clearance of the government of the time, but right now, it is certainly on the agenda of the Indian board.

“It will be subject to the clearance of the Government of India as always,” a BCCI official maintaining the oft-repeated position was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Notably, Pakistan is set to host the 50-over Asia Cup right before the ODI World Cup in India.

India have not toured their neighbouring country since 2008 and both sides only meet during multi-nation or ICC events.

India’s last tour of its neighbouring nation came in 2008, for that year’s Asia Cup where MS Dhoni & Co. ended as runners-up while its last bilateral series came in early 2013 when Misbah-ul-Haq-led Pakistan team had toured India for three ODIs and two T20Is. Since then, both sides have met only during multi-nation or ICC events.
