BCCI likely to shortlist IPL 2021 venues as host cities for T20 World Cup

The six venues for the upcoming edition of Indian Premier league (IPL) are likely to be the same which the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would possibly recommend as venues for this year’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in October.

As per rules, schedule for any International Cricket Council (ICC) events is announced at least six months before the the tournament begins. However, because of the prevalent Covid-19 pandemic, there might be a delay for this event.

Although the BCCI was trying to host the showpiece event across eight venues however, due to the prevailing situation, the Indian board now wants to avoid travel issues and is likely to stage the tournament in six cities.

“Moving from one city to the other for one match will come with a huge risk. If the venue count is down, it will help us in delivering a smooth tournament. If need be, a similar schedule like IPL where matches are restricted to not more than two cities at a given point of time will be considered. We have to be as flexible as possible,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by The New Indian Express.
