BCCI invites job applications for Team India’s head coach

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday issued invitation for the position of the head coach of the Indian senior men’s team along with the batting, bowling and fielding coach.

Meanwhile, the invitation also include the vacancy for the Head Sports Science/Medicine of the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

The deadline for the submission for applying for the post of head coach has been set at 5 PM on October 26 while for the remaining four posts it has been fixed as November 3.

The BCCI statement said that the remuneration for the post of head coach will be “negotiable and will be commensurated with experience” and the period of contract will be of two years.

The statement said that some of the key accountabilities for the head coach post will be that he will be responsible for developing a world class Indian cricket team which delivers sustained success in all conditions and formats, inspiring current and future generations of cricketers and stakeholders with their approach to the game.

“The Head Coach will have overall responsibility for the performance and management of the India Men’s
team in all three forms of the game and will lead a team of specialist coaches and support staff and will be responsible for defining their roles, their performance and ongoing development. He will be responsible for reviewing, maintaining, and enforcing the disciplinary codes within the India Men’s team and will work with the Head of NCA to formulate a developmental plan for the upskilling players who are not a part of the national team as and when possible,” the statement said.

“The Head Coach in conjunction with Head Cricket NCA will formulate a policy for development of players,
which is to be communicated to all first-class teams, so that the first class coaches are aware of the
parameters required to succeed at the international level. He will also observe players in elite competitions with the National Selectors and provide strategic inputs with respect to selection wherever required and provide support and advice in the development of a cricket pathway. The Head Coach will also oversee the workload management plans and set KPIs for respective support staff verticals,” it added.

Although, former India skipper and current NCA Chief Rahul Dravid is all set to take over as the next head coach of the Indian cricket team after the upcoming T20 World Cup, it has been learnt that the BCCI issued the advertisement for the post to ensure that due process is followed.

Meanwhile, former India pacer Paras Mhambrey is likely to be the appointed as the next bowling coach.

Earlier after some initial reluctance, 48-year-old Dravid had agreed to the BCCI’s offer.

As a coach, Dravid is best known for strengthing the bench strength of India as ace cricketers like Rishabh Pant, Avesh Khan, Prithvi Shaw, Hanuma Vihari, and Shubman Gill have all come through a system created by him.

Earlier this year, Dravid had served as the head coach of the Indian team during the tour of Sri Lanka.
