AIBA to send observer for smooth conduct of BFI elections

The Boxing Federation of India’s (BFI) presidential elections on February 3 will be reportedly held under the observance of an International Boxing Association (AIBA) official.

The BFI itself had asked for an observer form the world body to ensure “free and fair polls”.

Meanwhile, AIBA chief Umar Kremlev, who took charge in December 2020, has also said that their relationship with the BFI has mended after the bitter row over payment of pending dues by the Indian body was resolved.

He said that the AIBA will certainly send a competent observer for the BFI’s presidential elections as their task is to ensure complete transparency and democracy in each National Federation.

The AIBA election observer is likley to arrive either on Tuesday or on the day of polls and a negative COVID-19 test report would be enough to his presence during the election’s proceedings on February 3.

Significantly, Incumbent BFI chief Ajay Singh is being challenged by BJP leader and former Mumbai Cricket Association chief Ashish Shelar for the post.
