Afghanistan to tour Sri Lanka for 3-match ODI series in November

Afghanistan will be touring Sri Lanka for a three-match ODI series in November, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) annoounced on Monday (October 17).

The three matches will be a part of the World Cup Super League and will be played on November 25, 27 and 30 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

Notably, the three matches were initially scheduled to be played in February 2023 however, with the cricket calendars of both teams allowed for a reschedule to an earlier date.

“We are pleased with the outcomes of our discussions and negotiations with Sri Lanka Cricket on shifting the schedule to November this year. We are looking forward to playing Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, which is a heavy task but a challenge that I know our players will embrace,” said Mirwais Ashraf, ACB Chairman.

This will be Afghanistan’s first bilateral visit to Sri Lanka.

Earlier, the two teams teams have played four ODIs – two times in the Asia Cup and twice in the World Cup – with Sri Lanka having a 3-1 head to head record.

Afghanistan are currently seventh in the World Cup Super League with 10 wins out of 12 games while Sri Lanka are 10th with only six wins in 18 games. A finish inside the top eight will guarantee a team a direct berth in the 50-over Men’s World Cup which will be played in India, with the hosts getting an automatic qualification.
