8 groundstaff at Wankhede tests positive for COVID-19

Eight groundstaff members at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai have tested positive for COVID-19 after the tests conducted ahead of the Indian Premier League’s (IPL’s) 2021 edition.

Significantly, the Wankhede stadium will be hosting 10 league games in the upcoming season of the league.

As per reports, 19 groundstaff members at the Wankhede had undergone the mandatory RT-PCR tests in the last week where three were confirmed to have contracted the virus during the tests conducted on March 26, five more test reports conducted on April 1 returned positive on Friday.

The Wankhede is scheduled to host its first game just a week from now and the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is likley to isolate those eight groundstaff at its two facilities — the Sharad Pawar Academy in Bandra-Kurla Complex and Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana in Kandivali.
