2nd Test: Anderson, Bess left out of England’s 12-man squad

As part of England’s rotation policy, England pacer James Anderson will be rested in the upcoming second Test against India, starting Saturday in Chennai, the visiting side skipper Joe Root said on Friday.

Root also said that spinner Dom Bess will make way for most likely Moeen Ali.

With Jofra Archer, who was forced to miss the contest due to an elbow injury, and Jos Buttler unavailable for selction, Chris Woakes and Stuart Broad will fight for the former’s spot while Ben Foakes will replace the latter.

Talking to media ahead of the 2nd Test, Root said it was a tough call to leave out Bess.

“He has taken that on board and I am sure he will be disappointed, but that is what you expect from players who really care,” the England skipper said.

Overall, England have made a number of changes, with Anderson, Bess, Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer making way for Moeen Ali, Stuart Broad, Chris Woakes, Ben Foakes and Olly Stone.

The Root-led side currently lead the four-match series 1-0.
