CAG’s Vijay Sharma to represent India at BWF Masters World Championship

Vijay Sharma from CAG will represent India in the upcoming BWF Masters World Championship, scheduled to be held in Spain in November last, after the shuttler won the All India Masters Ranking Badminton Tournament held at Goa last week.

In the Men’s singles 50 plus event, Vijay first outclassed previous Masters world championship bronze medalist Lingeswara Rao before beating Delhi’s Vikram Bhasin in straight sets.

Vijay got the better of Vikram 21-11, 21-15 in the affair lasting only for 27 minutes and qualified for the BWF Masters World Championship.

Notably, the Goa Badminton Association had hosted the eight-day-long tournament at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium in Navelim under the auspices of Badminton Association of India (BAI) from September 19.

The tournament was divided into two parts. While the first four days comprised of matches for those in the 55-plus, 60-plus, 65-plus, 70-plus and 75-plus age groups, the second phase, which was held from September 23, was for those in the 35-plus, 40-plus, 45-plus and 50-plus age brackets.

Moreover, the very next day after arriving from Goa, Vijay participated in the All India Civil Service tournament, which was held at Thyagraj Stadium (Delhi).

In the veterans category (45+), which comprised of 128 players, Vijay he won the championship by defeating Lalit Yadav from Haryana (30-29 ,21-16) to defend his title.
