Bangladesh head coach Domingo’s contract likley to be extended until 2022

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is planning to extend the contract of Russell Domingo, its national team head coach, till the next year’s Twenty20 World Cup, board’s Chief Nazmul Hasan has said.

“We are thinking about extending it for one year, most probably. We have two T20 World Cups coming up. So we are planning things taking that into account,” the BCB chief told mediapersons.

“We have not taken a final decision on the matter. We have a plan to continue with Domingo till the 2022 T20 World Cup,” he added.

Notably, Domingo’s current contract with the BCB will end after the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in October-November in the UAE.

The reason behind BCB’s plan to extend his contract is that there has been massive improvement in Bangladesh’s in recent months.

The Bangla Tigers drew the two-Test series in Sri Lanka beside defeating them at home in the three-match ODI series. Meanwhile, they also won across formats in Zimbabwe.

However, their biggest success came against touring Australia in the just-concluded T20I series, where they registered an impressive 4-1 win.

Nazmul however, said that the BCB hasn’t approached Domingo with the proposal for contract extension yet.

“I don’t see any problem regarding his extension. Most likely, his contract will get extended. We have neither informed Domingo nor discussed this issue among us. I have discussed it with some people, I will have to talk with more people and then we will finalise it,” he conlcuded.
