Bangladesh to bid for hosting Champions Trophy solely: BCB President

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chief Nazmul Hasan has said that they will solely bid for hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, one of the major events of the International Cricket Council (ICC) during the 2024-2031 cycle.

After the 10th BCB board meeting, held in Dhaka, the BCB president said that Bangladesh has the required infrastructure to host the showpiece event, bids for which has to be submitted soon.

Talking to media after the meeting at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Hasan said: “There are lots of issues (in order to solely host Men’s World Cup). We will need to have 10 full fledged stadiums. It is the same for whoever is interested to bid for the event. So that is not possible for us because we do not have that many venues. Hosting even the T20 World Cup solely is a challenge for us,”

“But there is Champions Trophy (2025) which is possible for us to host. We have decided to bid to solely host Champions Trophy,” he added.

Further commenting on the BCB’s willingness to jointly host the World Cup, Hasan said: “It is not possible for us to solely host one-day World Cup or T20I world cup. We will try to host it jointly with our ACC neighbours like India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. We will speak to the boards because chances of getting the rights to the world cup increases if we bid together.”

“There is a very short time in hand for this. We will have to come to a decision on this within a day or two,” added Nazmul.
