PSL 6: Russell cops nasty blow, stretchered to hospital

West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell was rushed to a hospital after he started feeling uncomfortable because of a blow suffered on his head while batting for the Quetta Gladiators in a Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 match against Islamabad United on Friday.

The swashbuckling batter was taken to a hospital for scans in an ambulance during the first over of the Islamabad innings.

The incident happened during the 14th over of the Quetta innings when Russell, after hitting two sixes off Islamabad medium-pacer Muhammad Musa, was too late to pull a bouncer and as a result, got hit on his helmet.

Although he was initially treated at the ground itself, he was taken to a hospital as he was uncomfortable even after preliminary treatement.

The caribbean all-rounder was then replaced by right-arm seamer Naseem Shah after Quetta used the ‘concussion substitute’ rule, as per which a player can be replaced by another member of the squad if the match referee considers him a ‘like-for-like’ option.

Quetta, meanwhile, won the match convincingly as they hammered Islamabad United by 10 wickets.
